Blazer fans,

Another week, another road win for the Green and Gold...on the heels of a big win at home...and no signs of snow and ice. So, all things considered, it was a pretty good week for the Blazers!

The week started with the impressive performance against the Tulane Green Wave on Wednesday night. UAB pulled away in the second half and cruised to an 81-61 win over our visitors from New Orleans. Five players reached double figures in scoring, led by Lawrence Kinnard's 24 (he added 10 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the year). Not to be outdone, Paul Delaney III poured in 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds of his own, and for his final trick, dished out 12 assists...a triple-double for PD3! He joins Alan Ogg as the only two Blazers to record the impressive feat in UAB basketball history. And I'm so glad the Blazer fans got to see it happen at Bartow Arena.

After taking care of Tulane, it was off to Hattiesburg for a Saturday night showdown with the Golden Eagles. Reed Green Coliseum hasn't been too terribly kind to the Blazers recently, but a determined and confident group headed down the interstate and took care of business. Four Blazers hit double figures, and Lawrence Kinnard was at it again...12 points and 12 rebounds. Paul led UAB with 16 points, but the slacker grabbed just six rebounds and handed out a measly three it wrong for me to expect triple-doubles every night now? I mean, he played the entire 40 minutes, and that was ALL he could do? Oh well.

The offense was clicking, again, but the real bright spot to me from the game was the UAB defense. The Blazers absolutely put the clamps on the Golden Eagles in the second half. USM shot just 30% from the field in the final 20 minutes, and Larry Eustachy's team hit just one of eight three-point field goals the entire night. The 66-49 win in Hattiesburg was awfully sweet, and now the Green and Gold head into a little bit of a break on another winning streak. Mike Davis has seen his team win three straight and six of seven.

There's no midweek game, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing, or not. The rest will certainly be nice, due primarily to the minutes these guys are having to play. The down side is I hate to see the momentum come to a break, however brief it may be. They'll be back in action this Saturday when SMU comes to the Magic City. The off day will be nice for the players and everyone else associated with the program...especially if the weather stays warm!

Other random thoughts...congrats to the softball team. They opened their season in Hawaii last week (without me) and finished second at the Paradise Classic. The Blazers got a win over Hawaii thanks to a one-hitter thrown by Lindsey Croft, and then the Green and Gold used some early-season dramatics against LSU. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh (softball only plays seven) with two outs and two on, Amanda Allen delivered a three-run, walk-off homer to carry UAB to the 5-3 win over the Fighting Tigers. They'll now take a few days off to recover from their trip to starts next weekend at Young Memorial Field, and we announced our radio broadcast schedule today. You can find the release here at Don't worry, the nice weather won't last...I'm sure we'll enjoy 40 degrees at first pitch when Radford comes in for a three-game series!

Well...time for the call-in show...come join us on Monday nights at Buffalo Wild Wings on Highway 280 to talk some UAB athletics. We're on from 7-8 PM, and we'd love to have you join us live and in person.

Have a great week...bring your sweet heart to Bartow for Valentine's Day basketball on Saturday...and GO BLAZERS!!!
