Summer, 1979: UAB hires Tim Hamer as the program's first-ever head coach, finishing the season with a respectable 9-10-2 record.
1981: UAB hires Bob Norman as head coach to replace Tim Hamer.
1986: After going 1-11-1 after his first season at the helm, in just a short five seasons later, Norman leads UAB to a remarkable turnaround, finishing the 1986 season with an 11-4-3 record. Norman is tabbed the 1986 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year for his efforts.
Spring, 1990: After nine seasons with UAB, Norman, who coached five Blazers who received all-conference recognition during his tenure, departs UAB.
Summer, 1990: Mick Payne is hired by UAB to replace Bob Norman.
1991: UAB joined the Great Midwest Conference in 1991, finishing 6th overall and earned a spot in the Great Midwest Championship.
Summer, 1992: UAB hires current head coach Mike Getman to replace former head coach Mick Payne.
Sept. 6, 1992: In his first game at the helm, Getman leads UAB to a 2-1 overtime win against Alabama-Huntsville, earning the program's 100th victory.
1994: Getman leads UAB to a 15-4-1 record, capturing the Great Midwest regular season and tournament championships and earning the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Blazers fell to No. 1 ranked UCLA, 3-2, in overtime.
1995: After UAB becomes one of the founding members of the new Conference USA, Getman leads his team to a 15-4-1 record and an unbeated 7-0-1 record in conference play to capture his second consecutive league championship. Getman is tabbed the C-USA Coach of the Year.
1999: In the program's most successful season to date, the Blazers finish the year 17-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play to capture the C-USA regular season and tournament championships, earning the program's second berth in to an NCAA Tournanment. UAB does not disappoint in hosting its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, defeating No. 4 Southwest Missouri State, 2-1. The Blazers then defeated No. 17 SMU, 2-0 in the second round to advance to the Elite Eight. However, the Blazers fell just short of reaching the school's first-ever College Cup, falling to No. 18 Santa Clara, 3-2, in overtime. The 17 victories still stands as the all-time record for wins in a season.
Nov., 1999: Getman is named the C-USA Coach of the Year for a second time in his career.
Nov., 1999: UAB earns an at-large berth to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament. However, the Blazers fall 1-0 in four overtimes at Washington. It is one of the longest men's soccer games played in NCAA Tournament history. The Blazers finish with a 14-5-2 overall record.
Sept. 24, 2000: With a 7-0 thrashing of DePaul, UAB earns the program's 200th victory.
Nov., 2000: UAB returns to the NCAAs for a third straight season. The Blazers capture victories at home against Furman (1-0) and at South Carolina (3-2) to earn another trip to the Elite Eight. However, UAB's hopes of reaching the school's first-ever College Cup is again dashed, losing a double-overtime heartbreaker at Clemson, 3-2.
Sept. 29, 2004: With a 1-0 overtime victory over Alabama A&M, Mike Getman earns his 150th victory at UAB.
2004: Mike Getman was tabbed as the Conference USA Coach of the Decade.
Nov., 2006: UAB receives an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, marking the fourth time in the last eight seasons, and fifth time in program history, UAB has earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
