BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team earned an 8-4 victory over Samford on Tuesday night in Casey Dunn's return to J.L. Griffin Field.

UAB (16-7) was led by Darryl Buggs and Christian Hall who each had a two-run home run and a double. Buggs drove in three runs and Hall two. The Blazers out-hit the Bulldogs 11-10.

Starting pitcher Aiden Moza picked up his first win of the season as he led a rotation that saw six different Blazers take the mound.

After a scoreless first, the Blazers scored two runs on two hits in the top of the second. Hall led off with a double, and the bases were then loaded following Caleb Floyd getting hit by a pitch and Henry Hunter collecting a single.

Matthew Golda then missed a grand slam by a matter of two feet, but his sacrifice fly scored Hall, and Tyler Waugh then had an RBI groundout which scored Floyd.

Samford tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer from right fielder Andrew Bennett, but Hall struck again in the top of the third with a two-run blast to right which also scored Josh Sears who walked one batter earlier, giving UAB a 4-2 lead.

Center fielder Darryl Buggs then busted the game open with a two-run shot of his own to left center for his second home run of the season, giving UAB a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth.

The game's fourth home run belonged to Samford catcher Kaden Dreier in the bottom of the fourth to cut UAB's lead in half at 6-3.

UAB added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth with an RBI double from Buggs and a single from John Marc Mullins, bringing the score to 8-3 in favor of the Blazers.

Samford scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as UAB claimed the victory in the 91st meeting between the crosstown rivals.

UAB is back in action tomorrow for the Rickwood College Classic against Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m. All tickets are general admission for $10 and can be purchased at the Rickwood box office.
