UAB Baseball Drops Series Opener at Southeastern, 7-4

HAMMOND, La. — The UAB baseball team dropped its first game of the season on Friday night in the series opener at Southeastern, 7-4.
Jackson Reynolds (0-0, 2.45) got the start for the Blazers, working a season-high six innings with seven strikeouts. Carson Myers (1-1, 6.75) picked up the loss.
At the plate, Josh Sears went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two walks. Henry Hunter had his first career home run with two hits. As a team, the Blazers recorded 10 hits, which is the fourth 10-plus hit game of the season.
Southeastern (3-2) got on the board first in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead.
UAB (4-1) was able to tie the game at one in the third after back-to-back-to-back singles. Sears sent the RBI single to right that drove in John Marc Mullins from second.
Hunter put the Blazers on top with his first career home run out to left field to take the 2-1 lead. UAB added another run in the fifth on a base hit by Caleb Floyd driving in Mullins.
Southeastern scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie that game at three. The Lions retook the lead in the seventh on four runs for the 7-3 advantage.
Darryl Buggs responded in the eighth with a two-out RBI single to cut the lead to three and put runners on the corners. Mullins drew a walk to load the bases. However, the Blazers were unable to put together a rally to keep it a three-run game for the eventual final score of 7-4.
