BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - With the 2017 season just 18 days away, uabsports.com will get you familiar with the 10 coaches who will be on the sidelines for the historic return, beginning with defensive backs coach Blake Shrader.
Shrader, who played at Auburn and graduated in 2008, stayed at his alma mater as a defensive quality control coach until 2009 before linking up with UAB head coach Bill Clark at South Alabama where he served as a graduate assistant from 2010-12.
Shrader then made the move to Jacksonville State with Clark and coached the cornerbacks in 2013 during JSU's record setting 11-4 season, helping guide the Gamecocks to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs.
Following the 2013 season, Shrader joined Clark at UAB in 2014 as the director of player personnel and helped contribute to the Blazers' remarkable turnaround from the year before as UAB reached bowl eligibility for the first time in a decade.
Shrader has been back in Birmingham since the spring of 2016 after a brief stint at Georgia in 2015 when UAB was sidelined from game action.
He oversees the defensive backs, which includes the corners and the safeties.
