BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB head football coach Neil Callaway has added another assistant to his coaching staff as Corey Barlow will join the Blazers as the team's cornerbacks coach.
Barlow, an Atlanta native, was a standout performer at Auburn in the early 1990s. Barlow coached the 2006 season at the University of Rhode Island where he was the secondary coach. During his playing days at Auburn, Barlow was a four-year letterman for the Tigers and earned All-SEC honors in 1990 and 1991.
"Not only will Corey bring a lot to the UAB program as a coach, but he also is an outstanding person," said Callaway. "I have always been very impressed with him and we are excited about having him join the staff."
He was selected in the fifth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and played three seasons with the Eagles. He also spent a season in the World Football League in 1996 as a member of the Amsterdam Admirals.
Prior to his stint at Rhode Island, Barlow spent four seasons at Morehouse College and worked with the Maroon Tiger secondary. Barlow also has coached in the high school ranks as he coached two years at Southside High School in Atlanta.
Barlow is the fourth assistant coach Callaway has named to his staff since being named UAB's new head coach last Sunday. He also has hired Steve Davenport as an assistant coach on the offensive side, Will Friend as offensive line coach and Tyson Summers as linebackers coach.
