Dr. Marshall Crowther was named team physician for UAB athletics in the Fall of 2008. He previously had completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship program at the famed American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham under renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Tracy Ray. During his time as a sports medicine fellow, Dr. Crowther served as one of the team physicians for Troy University. In addition to his work with the UAB athletes, Dr. Crowther is an assistant professor at UAB in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and is actively involved in the teaching of medical students and residents in primary care sports medicine. He also sees patients from the community of all ages for non-operative orthopaedic and sports medicine care and assists several local Birmingham schools with their medical needs. He has also assisted in sports medicine coverage for the Birmingham Barons AA Minor League baseball team as well as a multitude of sporting events in the greater Birmingham area.
Dr. Crowther graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. Degree in Biochemistry from Clemson University in 1998 and went on to medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he graduated in 2003. After that, he completed a residency in general pediatric medicine at the Greenville Hospital University Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
