Danez M. Marrable joined UAB Athletics in January 2008 as the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services. In this position, Marrable leads a full-time staff of ten individuals and manages the support services for student-athletes, including academics, student-athlete affairs and life skills programming.

Prior to coming to UAB, Marrable was an academic counselor in the athletic department at the University of Georgia. There, she coordinated academic support services for men's basketball and softball. In addition, she assisted with recruiting, faculty and staff relations, student awards and recognition events.

Marrable is a graduate of Ohio University where she earned her bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in athletic administration. She went on to earn a J.D. with a sports law emphasis from Marquette University Law School and was sworn in to the State Bar of Wisconsin in October of 2004.

After receiving her law degree from Marquette, she served as athletics academic coordinator at Winthrop University and was later promoted to director of academic and student-athlete services in June 2005. She oversaw all aspects of the Eagles' student-athlete services, including academics, CHAMPS/Life Skills and compliance. While serving at Winthrop, the total student-athlete grade point average reached its highest in school history while recording the highest percentage for conference scholars.

Marrable got her start in athletics as Assistant to the Director of SAADS at Ohio University.

PERSONAL: Marrable is originally from Detroit, Mich., and she also lived in Mansfield, Ohio. She was recently appointed to the NCAA Committee of Women's Athletics (a four-year term) and remains an active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics where she currently serves on the Legislative Services Committee. She is also a faculty member for the N4A Professional Development Institute and coordinator of the New Practitioner track. In addition, she is a member of NACADA, NACDA, the National Bar Association and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
