Mary Kathryn Borland is in her fifth year as an academic advisor in the Don M. and Marsha Hoke Hire Student-Athlete Academic Center. Her main duties include overseeing the academic progress for the Blazers' football and women's tennis teams. She also assists with the Life Skills program. She was appointed as the Book Coordinator in 2010.
A 2004 graduate of Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., Borland obtained her bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in vocal performance before moving to Troy University, where she earned her Master's of Science in Sports and Fitness Management in May 2006.
In 2004, Borland served as a student assistant to the interim athletics director at Wesleyan College. She followed that by holding a staff assistant position in Troy's student-athlete support services department from 2004-06.
A native of Dothan, Ala., Borland is also involved in various organizations, including the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), and she is the former athletics representative on UAB's Campus Academic Advisory Committee. Borland is also a member of the Junior League of Birmingham.
