BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Members of the UAB softball and bowling teams participated in the annual “Boo at the Zoo” event at the Birmingham Zoo last Friday night.

The event included fun and games, autographs, dancing and candy for thousands of Birmingham children looking to trick-or-treat in their creative costumes.

The 2013 Conference USA Champion Blazer softball team signed autographs, painted faces for youth, ran various game stations and even led a dance party at the popular local event. As hundreds of children filed through the zoo, student-athletes had an opportunity to play games and hand out prizes and candy to the local youth. The UAB bowling team also got in on the action as the sun went down and more ghosts and goblins came out for the night.

“Our student-athletes had a fantastic time interacting with the kids at this very exciting event,” UAB Director of Student-Athlete Support Services and Community Relations Justin Mackey said. “We look forward to any opportunity to get out in the community and interact with fans of UAB Athletics.”

The 2013 Boo at the Zoo event continues this Friday and Saturday night at the Birmingham Zoo.
