BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Jeff Guin, who has spent the past five years as a member of the Academic Support staff at the University of Illinois, and Jennifer Kost, who has more than 10 years of collegiate marketing experience, most recently at West Virginia University, have joined the staff at UAB, Blazers' Director of Athletics Brian Mackin announced.
Guin has been named Associate Athletic Director for Student Support Services while Kost comes to UAB in the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing.
While at Illinois, Guin served five years as an academic counselor, including two working with the Illini football team (2011 and 2012). Prior to that, he was an academic counselor with the men's basketball team (2008-11).
Kost spent the past year at West Virginia as Sports Marketing Director after a 10-year stint at the University of Wyoming. She held the post of Assistant AD of Marketing for the Cowboys' program from 2006-12 after serving as Coordinator of Marketing and Promotions for two years prior. She began her collegiate marketing experience as a marketing and promotions intern in the Wyoming office from 2002-04.
"I'm excited about the additions of Jeff and Jen to our staff," Mackin said. "Both of them bring an abundance of experience to these two important areas of our program."
Prior to going to Illinois in 2008, Guin was an assistant men's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University. He also spent three seasons as an assistant basketball coach at Western Illinois from 2003-06.
Guin served in an administrative role with the University of Illinois men's basketball program from 1997 to 2003. He helped Illinois to five NCAA Tournament appearances under former coaches Lon Kruger and Bill Self, three Big Ten titles (1998, 2001, 2002) and a Big Ten Tournament title in 2003.
Prior to beginning his coaching career at Illinois, Guin served as a student manager at the University of Florida for both Kruger (1993-96) and Billy Donovan (1996-97). Under Kruger, Guin helped the Gators to a Final Four trip in 1994 and an NCAA Tournament berth in 1995.
Guin completed three degrees during his time at Florida - a bachelor's degree in education in 1995, a master's in education in 1996, and a master's in sport management in 1997. Prior to attending Florida he played two years at Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, Fla., where he earned Academic All-America NJCAA Region 8 honors in 1992 and 1993.
Kost has been at West Virginia since July, 2012, and in her marketing role in the department, she developed, implemented and evaluated marketing and promotional plans for football, volleyball, men's basketball, wrestling and baseball. A graduate of Wyoming, Kost earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 2002 and a Masters of Business Administration in 2004.
While working at her alma mater, Kost was involved in all aspects of the Cowboys' marketing efforts during her last six years in Laramie.
Prior to her first opportunity at Wyoming in 2002, Kost was a marketing/community relations intern with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.
