BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The 2009-10 broadcast season is approaching, and the Blazers ISP Sports Network is ready to take to the airwaves with familiar voices behind the microphones and at familiar locations on the radio dial.
UAB fans in Birmingham will once again be able to hear all the football and basketball action on WUHT-FM "Hot" 107.7, the flagship station of the Blazers ISP Sports Network. The Green and Gold faithful will also be able to hear "Blazers All-Access" each week on Birmingham's WJOX-FM 94.5 throughout the football and basketball campaigns.
David Crane returns for his third season as the play-by-play "Voice of the Blazers." Crane will again be joined in the booth by former UAB and NFL place kicker Jake Arians. Arians is in his second season as color analyst after serving two years as the sideline reporter on the UAB broadcasts. Another former Blazer, Otis Leverette, will be roaming the sidelines this year as a part of the radio crew. Leverette was a two-year letter-winner (1999-00) as a defensive end for the Blazers.
Each football broadcast will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff, and the pre-game show for all home games will originate from Blazer Village, just outside the north end zone of Legion Field.
UAB fans will have their chance to visit with head coach Neil Callaway each week on "Blazers All-Access," the 60-minute radio call-in show highlighting UAB football. For the second straight year, "Blazers All-Access" will be broadcast live from the Patton Creek location of Bob Baumhower's Wings Restaurant each Wednesday night from 7-8 PM on the Blazers ISP Sports Network. The first show is set to air on August 26th.
UAB will hold its annual Fan Day this Saturday, August 22nd. Supporters are encouraged to have "Breakfast with the Blazers" at Bartow Arena. Festivities will begin with a pep rally at 8:45 AM just outside the arena, followed by breakfast at 9:00 AM, served by the coaching staff, and then a chance to get autographs from the players, coaches and radio crew beginning at 10:00 AM on the concourse. The event is free to all UAB football season ticket holders and $5 for non-season ticket holders.
