BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB fans will be able to follow the Blazers throughout the 2008-09 season on new flagship stations in Birmingham. Starting this fall, all UAB football and basketball games will be heard on WWMM "live 100.5 FM", while "Blazers All-Access", the weekly coaches' call-in show, will air on 94.5 FM, the new home to WJOX. Tony Grillo, General Manager of the Blazers ISP Sports Network, announced those and other changes on Friday.
"We are excited to continue our partnership with Citadel Broadcasting," Grillo said. "We think the changes in our flagship stations will once again broaden our coverage area and give more Blazer fans the opportunity to follow the Green and Gold. Our flagships, along with our other great affiliates, are helping us grow the network and get us closer to our goal of state-wide coverage."
In addition to the new flagship stations, the Blazers ISP Sports Network have added two new members on the radio crew for the 2008 football campaign. David Crane returns for his second season as the play-by-play "Voice of the Blazers." Crane will be joined in the booth by former UAB and NFL place kicker Jake Arians. Arians moves upstairs to take over the color analyst duties after serving two years as the sideline reporter on the UAB broadcasts.
Replacing Arians on the sidelines will be former Blazer Pat Green. Green was a running back and lettered at UAB from 1991-94. ISP also announced the addition of Dan Burks to the broadcast team. Burks, a former running back for the Green and Gold, finished his UAB career in 2006 and will be a part of the pre-game show for all Blazer home games.
"I'm thrilled to have three former Blazers working on the broadcasts this season," said Crane, also the Director of Broadcasting. "I think Jake, Pat and Dan will not only be informative but entertaining, as well. Their UAB careers span nearly the entire life of the program at the Division IA level, and I know the Blazer fans will enjoy their insights each and every week."
UAB fans will have their chance to visit with head coach Neil Callaway each week on "Blazers All-Access," the 60-minute call-in show highlighting UAB football, but that opportunity will come on a new day, at a new time and from a new location. "Blazers All-Access" will be broadcast live from the Patton Creek location of Bob Baumhower's Wings Restaurant each Wednesday night from 7-8 PM on the Blazers ISP Sports Network. The first show is set to air on August 20th.
