BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB Blazer fans can kick off the 2012 season in fun fashion Saturday, Aug. 25 when the annual Football Fan Day is held at the Riverchase Galleria.
This will be the second consecutive year the Blazers' Fan Day has been held at the Galleria Mall in Hoover. The event will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the food court area of the mall.
Fans will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the players, head coach Garrick McGee and the new UAB coaching staff. There will be an autograph session as the Blazers look ahead to their season opener a week later when Troy comes to Legion Field on Sept. 1 for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
"One of Coach McGee's priorities since coming to Birmingham has been to connect the football program with the community," said UAB Athletic Director Brian Mackin. "Taking Fan Day to the Riverchase Galleria helps us toward that objective. There is a lot of excitement surrounding UAB Football with Garrick McGee as our new head coach. We expect that Fan Day will be well-attended as Coach McGee leads our program into a new era."
Fans can pick up the 2012 Blazer football poster and schedule cards, as well as obtain ticket information and other items.
There will be performances by the UAB Marching Band, cheerleaders and UAB Golden Girls. The UAB mascot, Blaze, will also be on hand. Fans will also have the opportunity to have photos taken with the "Battle for the Bones" trophy that goes annually to the winner of the UAB-Memphis game.
The Riverchase Galleria Mall will open at 10 a.m.
