BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB athletic department announced the inaugural "Paint the Town Green and Gold" event, which is set to take place this Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Fans are invited to play a part in this unique opportunity by teaming up with Blazer coaches and student-athletes to help canvas local area businesses with posters and schedule cards of UAB fall sports.
Those who are interested in participating will meet at the Bartow Arena dragon statue at 11 a.m., noon or 1 p.m. From there, fans will partner with UAB student-athletes, coaches and spirit groups to visit businesses throughout the city of Birmingham.
Social media will play a big part of this event, so fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #PaintTheTown on Twitter, or by following UAB athletics on Facebook to help advertise.
UAB's first home athletic event of the 2012-13 season will be an exhibition game for UAB Men's Soccer versus nationally-ranked Louisville on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
