BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Bill Lansden, a veteran athletics administrator who has spent the past nine years as an Associate Athletic Director heading up the athletics development operation at the University of Memphis, has been named Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at UAB, Blazers' Director of Athletics Brian Mackin announced Tuesday.
Lansden, who is scheduled to begin his new post at UAB on July 23, will oversee all external operations, including development, marketing, media relations, and ticketing for the Blazers' 18 intercollegiate sports.
Lansden has served as the Associate Athletic Director for Development at Memphis since 2004. While in this role, he led the Tigers' capital campaigns, major and annual giving initiatives and helped Memphis set new records for fundraising. During his tenure, the Tigers' Scholarship Fund membership increased by 60 percent and he directed all facets of a $16 million Capital Campaign from 2007-10.
"We are extremely excited to have Bill Lansden joining our UAB athletics family," said Mackin. "He has a wealth of experience and proven leadership skills and will be a great addition to our senior management team as we expand our external operations."
Prior to Memphis, Lansden spent two years (2002-04) at the Associate AD for External Operations at Middle Tennessee State University where he led the athletics development and marketing departments.
Lansden, a former four-year football letterwinner and team captain at Rhodes College in Memphis, was the marketing coordinator at the FedEx - St. Jude Classic from 2000-02, coordinating all corporate hospitality for the weeklong PGA Tour event, administering marketing and promotional campaigns for the tournament, as well as selling corporate sponsorships, and directing a dozen volunteer committees for the classic.
His first stint at the University of Memphis was from 1997-99 when he held the position of Director of Annual Giving and was responsible for management of annual renewal campaign membership, as well as all areas of annual giving, including cultivation and stewardship activities.

Lansden earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Rhodes College in 1986 and his Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State in 1993.
He and his wife, Blair, have twin daughters, Madeline and Delaney (7).
