Blazer fans,

I look forward to seeing you least I BETTER see you tonight! It's the final home game of the regular season (and I sure hope of the season...period) as the Memphis Tigers come to Bartow Arena. The final week of the regular season is upon us, and the Green and Gold still have much to play for, even though a league championship is off the table. UTEP's win at Marshall on Tuesday night clinched the regular season title for the Miners...congrats to Tony Barbee and company on a fantastic season.

The NCAA Tournament is on everyone's mind right now, and the job at hand for the Blazers is pretty simple: WIN. It starts this evening with Memphis. It has been four long years since the Blazers last toppled the mighty Tigers...four years to the day! There's our first good omen. It's Senior Night for Howard Crawford, Kenneth Cooper and George Drake. You always want to send the seniors out with a win, but a victory over Memphis would make it extra special, especially for Howard, who has been painfully close to a win over Memphis a couple of times in his career. The three have been key figures in UAB's amazing season, and it will be only fitting to see them leave the Arena tonight with big smiles on their faces.

After tonight, one game remains. The Blazers MUST take care of business this evening, and then they can turn their attention to getting a little payback from UTEP. While there won't be a title on the line this weekend in El Paso, there will still be plenty at stake. A win for the Green and Gold would look mighty nice on the resume as the selection committee continues to mull things over. It would also be quite enjoyable to knock off the Miners and spoil their senior day! Regardless of what happens this week, UAB still has one more chance to lock up an NCAA Tournament berth. All they have to do is win the Conference USA Tournament in Tulsa next week. That job has been made slightly easier thanks to a first-round bye.

We'll have plenty of time to worry about the tourney later. UAB vs. Memphis week begins this evening and concludes tomorrow, as the UAB women close out their regular season with the Tigers at Bartow. It will be Senior Night, and, because of winter weather a few weeks ago, the game will also feature the Pink Zone activities that were postponed. The silent auction will begin at 6 PM on the concourse...cancer survivors will be recognized throughout the night...and all proceeds go to the Coach Gene Bartow Fund for Cancer Research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Please come support the UAB women as they help promote breast cancer awareness. a good dinner...drink some hot tea to help the voice...and come to Bartow Arena tonight ready to leave hoarse. It should be a lot of fun!

Have a great week...and GO BLAZERS!!!
