BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Blazer Rebounders, the UAB men's basketball support group, has created a strong presence with memberships ranging from $30 for individuals and $50 for families up to four people.
One priority for the group, which operates under the umbrella of Blazer Boosters, is to help raise funds for special projects, specifically for the men's basketball program.
Blazer Rebounders chartered a bus to Hattiesburg, Miss., to cheer on the Blazers against Southern Miss., on Jan 19. The next road trip will be the final regular season contest for UAB at Memphis on Saturday, March 9, with the game slated to tip off at 11 a.m. CT.
The road trip to Memphis will provide UAB fans the opportunity to enjoy the game and spend time on Beale Street afterwards as well. All Blazer Rebounders members can be a part of the road trip for $45, while non-members can attend for $60.
In addition to cheering on the Blazers at Bartow Arena and on the road, this support group hosts monthly luncheons throughout the season, with the final two to be held at Dreamland BBQ on Friday, Feb. 15 and Friday, March 1.
UAB head coach Jerod Haase, former stars Mo Finely and Steve Mitchell, and play-by-play great Gary Sanders were featured speakers at the first three luncheons. The final two will include more special guests and also incorporate UAB student-athletes from the men's basketball team. Attending the luncheons provides Blazer Rebounders an inside look into UAB men's basketball both past and present.
