Senior Associate Athletics Director - External Relations
Assistant Athletics Director for Development
Brad Hardekopf joined the UAB Athletics Department in September of 2008 as Director of Sales. After spending a year launching the sales department, he transitioned into a role focused on fundraising in an effort to grow the annual fund.
Hardekopf currently serves on the administrative staff for UAB Athletics as Assistant Athletics Director for Development. He oversees the daily operation of the Blazer Boosters office while focusing on major gifts and capital projects.
Hardekopf joined the Blazers after spending two seasons with the WNBA Houston Comets. As their Corporate Partnerships Manager, he worked with local and regional businesses to build and ensure fulfillment of integrated sponsorship packages for the team. Hardekopf directed the corporate sponsorship department during the 2008 WNBA season that was accountable for $1 million in revenue.
In 2006, Hardekopf interned with the Bruno Event Team and assisted with the SEC Baseball and the Association of Volleyball Professionals tournaments in Hoover.
A native of Birmingham, Hardekopf graduated from Auburn University with a degree in marketing. During his time at Auburn, he provided support to the athletics department by planning and executing promotions for multiple sports.
Hardekopf is married to the former Nicole Thomason of Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Associate Director of Development
Paul Kabbes joined the UAB Athletics Department in May of 2012. In his role, Kabbes serves as the Associate Director of Development with oversight of the annual fund and priority seating of football and men's basketball. He also coordinates UAB's B Club and manages the annual Blazer Rep program to generate new donors and supporters for UAB Athletics. New duties include oversight of the Blazer Boosters internship program and serving as the primary liaison with the ticket office.
Kabbes joined Blazer Boosters after two years with the Illinois State Athletic Department. He served as the Development Graduate Assistant while at ISU and worked primarily on generating annual fund revenues. He also managed donor rooms for men's basketball and football, worked on various external events, and served as tournament director for the Redbird Golf Classic. Kabbes also assisted with the selling of club seats for a newly-renovated Hancock Stadium on Illinois State's campus.
While completing his master's degree in Sport Management at Illinois State, Kabbes became strongly involved with the Miracle League of Central Illinois, a non-profit organization that provides children with mental or physical disabilities the chance to play baseball. He served as a coach and also worked as a fundraising intern. Kabbes aided with various fundraising events working towards the construction of a new field for the Miracle League.
A native of Normal, Illinois, he graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2010 with a degree in Business Management. Kabbes was a three-year letterwinner with the IWU baseball team and pitched for the 2010 team which won the Division III National Championship. He currently resides in Homewood.
Assistant Director of Development
Clair Waggener joined the UAB Athletics Department in December of 2013 as the Assistant Director of Development. In her role, Waggener primarily focuses on managing all aspects of special events for Blazer Boosters, including game day hospitality, Belles & Whistles, UAB Athletics Hall of Fame and the UAB Athletics Auction. In addition, she oversees the Blazer Boosters website and will assist the department in securing new Blazer Boosters members.
Waggener joined Blazer Boosters after serving one year with Crimson Tide Hospitality, The Colonnade Group, at The University of Alabama. She served as the North Zone Manager overseeing Bryant Denny Stadium's Premium Seating & Hospitality for Tide Pride members.
While completing her Master's degree in Sport Management at The University of Alabama, Waggener also served as a Graduate Assistant at the Paul W. Bryant Museum where she assisted in the planning of Coach Bryant's Centennial Celebration. She also had the opportunity to intern with Club Magnolia Hospitality at The Masters in 2013 and the NCAA Men's Final Four.
In 2011 and 2012, Waggener interned with the Samford University Athletic Department assisting in Event Management and Hospitality for the Bulldog Club.
A native of Murfreesboro, TN she graduated from Samford University in 2012 with a degree in Sports Administration. Prior to transferring to Samford in 2010, Waggener competed collegiately in Women's Basketball at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. She currently resides in Mountain Brook.
Assistant Director of Development
Brett Borders joined the UAB Athletics Department in January of 2013. In his role, Borders serves as the Assistant Director of Development primarily focusing on donor relations for the Blazer Boosters office.
In his role with Blazer Boosters, Borders will manage all aspects of donor relations including annual fund renewals, UAB's priority point system, gift processing, Blazer Boosters marketing materials and the Blazer Bulletin. He will also launch and oversee a Gift in Kind program and assist the department in securing new Blazer Boosters members.
Borders joined Blazer Boosters after spending a season as Development Associate with the Tiger Scholarship Fund at the University of Missouri. He assisted the Director of TSF in oversight, execution and marketing of the Tiger Scholarship Fund. In addition, he aided in the assignment of priority parking for both football and basketball while overseeing the department's Gift In Kind program. During his time at Missouri, Borders saw the TSF reach its largest annual fund membership base ever with 8,000 donors and record pledges of over $10 million.
Prior to Missouri, Borders served as a Blazer Boosters intern during the 2012-2013 academic year. While completing his undergraduate degree at Auburn University, he served as a production intern with the Rick & Bubba show and completed an internship with the Sports Czars Radio Show.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, he graduated from Auburn University in 2013 with a degree in Communication.
